The owners of Census are relishing the prospect of having a leading fancy in the St Leger at Doncaster next month.
The Richard Hannon-trained colt is third favourite for the world’s oldest Classic, thanks to winning the Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury earlier this month.
The Highclere Thoroughbred Racing (Beeswing) syndicate who own the three-year-old colt includes actress Liz Hurley.
“Richard (Hannon) is very pleased with him. He’s in great form and has been kept ticking over,” said racing manager Harry Herbert.
“It’s going to be an exciting race. Sea Moon looks a very tough nut to crack, but racing is a funny game and we know we have a horse that is well worth his place in the line-up.
“There’s no question he is improving, so we are looking forward to that enormously.
“Our horse will stay well, we know that. He will relish the mile-and-six trip – that certainly won’t be an issue for him.
“It’s incredibly exciting to have the third favourite for the last Classic of the year and we have a lovely team of owners involved in the horse.
“Elizabeth Hurley is involved in that one as well. I think she is going to be filming in America then, but we’ll be heading there with a good team of supporters.
“Fingers crossed if he gets there on the day everyone’s going to have a fun day out.”
